Community Service

Community service is a high priority at Petsas & Hill.  We take great pride in the community in which we live.  Our firm has been involved in many areas of community service as a firm and as individuals.  

As a firm, we have been members of the local Chamber of Commerce since the 1970's, sponsored youth athletic programs, active in legislative days will local professional organizations, involved in various political party activities, and been active in local civic community recognitions.

Gus Petsas has been recognized nationally for his leadership in helping others by Investment News Magazine as a finalist in the 2008 Community Service Awards.  He also has be named a "Home Town Hero" by the Contra Costa Newspaper Group and Comcast of the San Francisco Bay Area.  As a Board Member and Past Chairman of The Bay Area Rescue Mission, he has worked extensively with an organization that is helping the needy find shelter, meals and a new life in this Christian based outreach to the greater Bay Area. 

Gus has also served as a Treasurer and Board Member of Calvary Temple Church for 18 years and served on The Richmond Corps of the Salvation Army Advisory Board for over 30 years.  Gus also serves on the the Board of Directors for Feel The Power Impact Ministries and Sean Smith Ministries.

Mila Coffey is serving as a board member of the Contra Costa College Foundation.  In her role as a Board Member, Mila has helped with the fund-raising activities to benefit needy college students  by granting scholarships.  In 2009 Mila was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from Contra Costa College. 

Mila has also been an active volunteer for the George Miller Youth Fund, Hercules Titans Sports and Music Boosters, East Bay Regional Parks, Brookside Hospital Foundation, West Contra Costa Youth Soccer League and Pinole Hercules Little League.   As an active member of Saint Joseph Parrish, Mila has led the Rosary Project and been involved in youth education as a teacher.

Alison Mitchell is an active member of the Board of Directors of the Early Childhood Mental Health Program in Richmond, CA and serves on the Volunteer Recruitment & Management Team for Destiny Arts Center in Oakalnd, CA, both nonprofit organizations seving the needs of children in the community.  She has been involved with nonprofit children's organizatons for over ten years, fundraising, serving meals to the homeless, and volunteering  at the local food bank. 

In recent years Alison has been a behind the scenes volunteer for the arts programs at Saint Mary's College High School in Berkeley, CA.  In previous years, she was an active volunteer in may school programs at Hercules Middle School such as Site Council and the school library.  She also servied as campaign treasurer for Representative George Miller III for five years.
